About East Aurora School District 131
East Aurora School District 131 has a history that stretches back nearly two centuries. Established in 1851, District 131 was the first public school district chartered by the state of Illinois. Its roots date to 1836, when a small subscription school opened on Aurora’s east side.
Today, District 131 serves a diverse community across 13 square miles on Aurora’s east side. Aurora is home to more than 180,000 residents and is located about 40 miles west of Chicago.
East Aurora School District 131 serves about 12,000 students across 22 school sites, providing educational opportunities from early childhood through high school graduation. The district includes early childhood programs, Benavides STEAM Academy, 12 elementary schools, Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy, three middle schools and East Aurora High School, which serves about 3,500 students.
More than 1,000 certified educators serve District 131 students, and a majority hold advanced degrees. Together with support staff and administrators, they are committed to helping students learn, grow and succeed in school and beyond.
